The district administration was fully geared up to ensure the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha election, said Collector Jayashree Muralidharan here on Wednesday.

Zonal officers have already inspected all the 2,309 polling stations in the district to ensure that all amenities such as ramps for differently abled persons, drinking water, power supply and required furniture were available. “We are in a state of complete preparedness,” Ms.Muralidharan said speaking to reporters. She indicated that a few more auxiliary polling stations could be set up in the district with the approval of Election Commission.

Flying squads and static surveillance teams have been formed to supervise the implementation of the model code of conduct. The database of officers to be deployed on polling duty and list of Central government officers to be nominated as micro observers have been readied.

A 24-hour control room has been set up at collectorate and members of the public could lodge complaints regarding violations of the election code of conduct over the toll-free number 18004257030. As on January 10, the district had 20,33,188 voters including 10,05,621 men,10,27,480 women, and 87 transgender. The Tiruchi Lok Sabha constituency, which includes Srirangam, Tiruchi West, Tiruchi East, Tiruverumbur, Gandharvakottai (SC) and Pudukottai Assembly constituencies has 13,53,501 voters including 6,80,264 women, 6,73,157 men and 80 transgender. During the previous Lok Sabha elections, the constituency had 10,67,193 voters.

However, eligible voters whose names have not been included in the electoral rolls can do so now and already about 8,200 applications have been received for inclusion of names. Special camps will be held across the district on March 9 to receive applications for inclusion of names. The camps would be held at all the polling stations.
