A RPF team on Tuesday seized 14 kg of ganja from two travel bags abandoned inside coaches of Howrah-Tiruchi Express. The discovery was made after the train was taken to the coaching yard for maintenance.
The train, which arrived in the early hours, was stationed on the platform and later moved to the broad gauge coaching depot for regular maintenance. A woman involved in cleaning works at the depot found two bags inside S-2 and S-3 coaches and alerted her superiors. The information was immediately conveyed to local RPF personnel.
A crime team, headed by Sub Inspector S. Manoharan, went to the depot and checked the two coaches and found the travel bags beneath the seats.
Upon opening them, the team found seven packets of ganja each weighing two kg. The consignment was seized and its value put at ₹1.4 lakh. It was later handed over to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau–CID, Tiruchi, for further action, said RPF sources.
