October 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A group of 10 Sri Lankan Tamils housed in the special camp here observed fast on Thursday demanding their release.

Police sources said the Lankan Tamils against whom cases were pending resorted to the step in the morning hours.

Those in the camp have been booked in various cases including human trafficking and under Explosives Act.

The fasting Tamils maintained that they would face the cases remaining outside the camp.

Situated close to the Tiruchi Central Prison, the special camp accommodates 13 Sri Lankan Tamils in all. Three other inmates did not resort to fast, the sources said.

Suicide attempt

A few days ago, a Sri Lankan Tamil housed in the camp allegedly attempted to end his life by consuming sleeping pills demanding his release from the camp.
