Mariyam Pichai laid to rest with State honours

The body of Environment Minister N. Mariyam Pichai, who was killed in a road accident on Monday near Padalur in Perambalur district, was laid to rest with State honours on Tuesday.

There was a steady stream of mourners at Mariyam Theatre in Sangiliandapuram, where the body was kept since Monday. Samathuva Makkal Katchi leader and MLA Sarath Kumar offered his condolences along with many local leaders of the AIADMK and fraternal parties.

Later, thousands of party cadre and members of the public took part in the funeral procession from Sangiliandapuram to N.M. Mosque at Palakkarai where the body was laid to rest after special prayers.
