Year-long observance of Gandhi Jayanti at VSSC

Director S. Somanath opens celebrations

Year-long programmes in connection with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi got under way at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) here on Tuesday.

VSSC Director S. Somanath who inaugurated the celebrations called on everyone to introspect to bring about a positive transformation within themselves.

Gandhian P. Gopinathan Nair who was the chief guest spoke on relevance of Gandhian thought and values in society and life.

His transformation of peace and non-violence into a science and satyagraha into a way of protest is what makes Gandhi relevant even today, Gandhi Centre for Rural Development director Jacob Pulickan said.

Mr. Pulickan was speaking at an open forum at Venganoor GHSS to mark the Gandhi-Ayyankali meeting at Vengannor being held as part of ‘Gandhi Darshan’, a tour of places in the State that Mahatma Gandhi visited.

Fifty National Service Scheme (NSS) unit students from various States are taking part in the tour.
