June 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb flagged off a ‘Jan Vijnan Vikas Yatra’ to mark the ‘Reading Week’ here on Friday. Launching the yatra, organised jointly by the Departments of Education, IT and Panchayats, and the P.N. Panicker Foundation, the Education Minister said total e-literacy was a necessity in an age when everyone had a mobile phone.

The campaign was similar to the Total Literacy Campaign undertaken by the State two decades ago, he said.

Additional Chief Secretary V.S. Senthil; City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh; and P.N. Panicker Vijnan Vikas Kendra vice-chairman N. Balagopal attended the function. The yatra, involving 14 vehicles, would cover all the districts over the coming week. In Thiruvananthapuram, the yatra would tour seven panchayats beginning Friday.
