Speaker N. Sakthan will hold consultations with leaders of all political parties to forge a consensus on the harassment complaint filed in court by women MLAs, following the unruly scenes on Budget day in the last Assembly session.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Mr. Sakthan said that though he had tried talking to all party leaders about the issue at the time, a decision acceptable to all parties could not be taken.
He said that the issue should have been resolved before it reached the court, but that he would still make all attempts to evolve a consensus between political parties. Mr. Sakthan said that the next Assembly session is scheduled to begin before June 15, as the Budget has to be passed before July 31. He was hopeful that the session would be a peaceful and productive one. Mr. Sakthan also announced the examination results of the first batch which had undergone the Certificate course in Parliamentary Practice and Procedure, conducted by the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training, Kerala Legislative Assembly.
This is the first ever course being conducted by any legislative house or the Parliament to raise awareness on the basics of Parliamentary democracy and its processes.
