June 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

A 50-year-old contract cleaning worker at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station is in a critical condition, with a leg being severed and a hand nearly so, after she was trapped under a train engine on Thursday.

The Railway Police said Prabha, 50, of Kalliyoor, employed on contract with the cleaning department of Railways, was cleaning the tracks around 8 p.m. when the engine of Mangalore Express, which was being pushed to the other end of the train for shunting, ran over her.

It is believed that Prabha did not hear the engine approach.

The police said her right leg was severed and the left leg too suffered grievous injuries. She was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital here, along with the severed limbs, where she was undergoing emergency surgeries when reports last came in.
