The Medical College police have arrested Sheela Peter, 33, of Thumba on charges of fleecing several youngsters of cash after promising them foreign jobs.

Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector, Medical College, said the accused was absconding after many persons lodged complaints against her, accusing her of taking several lakhs of rupees promising them jobs, mostly in the Gulf countries.

The police trapped her by calling her up as a job aspirant seeking a visa to Kuwait. Simultaneous raids at her houses at Kumarapuram and Pallithura resulted in the seizure of several passports, identity cards, cheques, promissory notes and eight SIM cards of various service providers, Mr. Tharayil said.

Many people had started approaching the police with complaints after learning about the arrest, he said.

The accused was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
