The body of Ushakumari, 48, bludgeoned to death, was found in the living room of her house at Alamcode, near Attingal, on Wednesday.

Her son, Vishnu, 19, reportedly mentally unstable, who was found sitting in front of the house, his body covered in blood, has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The court issued directions for a medical examination to verify the claims that he was mentally unstable.

The incident

The incident came to light early in the day when Prasannakumaran, Ushakumari’s husband, reached home.

The police said Prasannakumaran was stabbed on his hand on Tuesday by Vishnu during one of his violent outbursts. Prasannakumaran left with his daughter Aparna to sleep in a relative’s home, leaving Ushakumari, who was also suffering from mental illness, with Vishnu.
