Cabinet clears Anganwadi workers’ ordinance

The Cabinet has cleared the Kerala Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Welfare Fund Ordinance 2015 and decided to recommend to Governor P. Sathasivam to promulgate it.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday that the ordinance was aimed at providing retirement and other benefits to Anganwadi workers and helpers who came under the Integrated Development Project.

A welfare fund would be established.

Each worker would need to contribute Rs.200 and helpers Rs.100 per month.

They would be eligible for the Bhima Karyakarthi Yojana Insurance Scheme, he said.

The government would nominate a chairman to head the fund.

Two representatives each of the workers and helpers would be on the board, Mr. Chandy said.

The Cabinet decided to re-promulgate the ordinance entrusting recruitment to universities with the Public Service Commission, he added.
