At the Sree Chitra Home, weddings are always massive celebrations involving an audience right from the youngest child to the most elderly caretaker here.
On Monday, two girls who have spent most of their lives at the home in Pazhavangadi tied the knot in the presence of Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar and Corporation Mayor K. Chandrika.
Karthika, 20, married Rakesh, 29, a resident of Vithura. She came to the home eight years ago from Kanjirampara and was working at the printing press set up on their premises since she finished school. Rakesh works as a salesman at Subhash Enterprises near Pazhavangadi.
The other resident who got married is Shalini, 21.
She was 10 when she joined the home.
She was wedded to Rinkal Tob, an agricultural labourer who lives in Valiyathura.

Newly appointed District Collector Biju Prabhakar directed a police verification as well to substantiate the report submitted by the probation officer.
For Monday’s ceremonies, T. Mini, a sponsor from Karamana, donated gold necklaces to the couples. Sreevardhan and Malavika, from Kudapanakunnu, gifted gold bangles and Vimala Varkey of Powdikonam sponsored gold earrings for the brides.
The Sree Chitra Poor Home, too, gifted them each a gold necklace.
In addition, Parthas clothing store sponsored wedding sarees for the brides.
An official at the home said a counsellor had spoken to the girls and would continue to visit them regularly even after the marriage. Another wedding may be held next month.
