The CPI(M) veteran V.S. Achuthanandan will lead the Opposition Left Democratic Front’s Assembly poll campaign, CPI legislature party leader C. Divakaran has said.
But a decision on who should head a possible LDF government was something for the CPI(M) leadership to decide, Mr. Divakaran said, addressing a news conference here on Saturday.
He also said that unlike in the Congress there was no confusion in the LDF about who should lead it. The people wanted Mr. Achuthanandan to lead alliance’s poll campaign. He could see no reason why Mr. Achuthanandan should not contest the Assembly elections. However, the decision as to who should be the Chief Minister would be decided by the CPI(M). His party would accept the CPI(M) leadership’s decision in the matter, the CPI leader said.
He said there was no question of the LDF allying with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). Muslim League had moved far away from the Left parties. They were firmly with the Congress. They would not be in a position to join forces with the Left .
