VS demands probe into lottery printing

Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Monday said there was serious corruption in the printing and distribution of State lottery tickets.

The government had by-passed two public sector security presses and contracted a private printer to issue an estimated three crore lottery tickets weekly. The curious decision smacked of big ticket corruption. Moreover, most of the lottery tickets were distributed through 26 big agencies. State lottery distribution did not benefit poor lottery sellers, a majority of the physically challenged and impoverished persons.

The government should reveal the proceeds of the Karunya lottery scheme and how the funds were utilised. He demanded a high-level probe to bring out the suspected corruption in the matter.
