UDF to meet today

IUML seeks meeting in the wake of ‘troubles within Congress’

May 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The United Democratic Front (UDF) will meet in the capital on Monday to discuss issues in the ruling front after the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) questioned the holding of zonal roadshows without solving the problems within the Congress party.

Confirming the meeting, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Sunday that the IUML leaders had talked to him over telephone.

Earlier in the day, an emergency meeting of the IUML’s high-level committee, held at Panakkad near Malappuram, had raised the demand that the UDF constituents meet within a day or two.

IUML district president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal presided over the meeting held at his house. The party’s State general secretary K.P.A. Majeed and parliamentary party leader and Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty attended the meeting

IUML leaders said that the party was viewing the problems within the Congress seriously. They said the intra-party troubles of the Congress would affect the prospects of the UDF in the coming civic body elections and the Assembly elections
