The city Corporation authorities have given a time frame of two years to IPE Global Limited, the project management consultancy of the Corporation’s Smart City project, to complete the entire project activity. The time period of the project and other issues were discussed at a meeting chaired by the Corporation Mayor between the consultancy officials and the Smart City technical committee on Friday.
“The consultancy officials gave a briefing of how they are planning to go about the project. As per their schedule, the projects were to be completed within three years. But, since our smart city project is already delayed due to various reasons, we do need to finish faster. The technical committee thus put forward a time period of two years, which the consultancy has agreed to,” said an official.
The Corporation will also carry out weekly monitoring. A weekly report will also be filed by the consultancy. Every two weeks, a review meeting will be chaired by the Mayor, with the CEO of the Smart City Special Purpose Vehicle also in attendance.
The Consultancy presented ten fast-track projects that it could finish in quick time, ahead of the other projects in the list. These include smart bus shelters, drinking water kiosks, reconstruction works of public toilets, cultural corridors, bicycle sharing, multi-level car parking, solar roofing over government buildings and information kiosks.
The Smart City company had already completed the initial steps of the smart bus shelter project and the water kiosk before the selection of the consultancy. The site visit of the water kiosk project has been completed and the Request for Proposal of the smart bus shelter project has been issued.
A consortium of IPE Global Limited and Delhi-based Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated (JLL) will be taking up the consultancy work. As per the agreement, the consultancy will have the responsibility of planning, designing and management of each of the projects. Within one year, the preparation of the DPRs of all the projects will be completed. Tendering process is also expected to begin in February next year and completed within the one year period.
