Two chain-snatching cases reported in city

November 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

After a brief lull, chain snatchers struck twice on the same day in the city, with two separate incidents of women being attacked on Friday.

While the assailants robbed one woman of her gold chain at Kalady, they failed in the second attempt near the Thampanoor Railway Station. In the first instance, Suma of Kalady was returning home after calling her daughter from a local tuition centre on Friday when two men, both wearing helmets, came on a motorcycle from behind and snatched her 5.5 sovereign gold chain.

Though Suma raised an alarm, the attackers fled the spot before locals could gather or alert the police. The Fort police have registered a

case and are investigating. There were no leads yet on the two men, they said on Saturday.

In the second case, a woman, hailing from Kothamangalam, who had alighted at the railway station on Friday, was reportedly attacked by a man near the RMS Office around 9.30 p.m. as she was walking towards Overbridge. Though the man managed to break the chain off her neck, it fell off and he fled the spot as she raised an alarm. The woman, who is yet to lodge a complaint with the police, has told the police that the attacker got away with only a little fragment of the chain. A case was yet to be registered in connection with this, police said.
