Homage was paid to Lini Sajish, a nurse at the Perambra taluk hospital who died of Nipah virus infection, at a gathering held under the aegis of the Health Department here on Wednesday.

Minister for Health K.K. Shylaja, Minister for Finance T.M. Thomas Isaac, and Minister for Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan were present at the remembrance held at Nishagandhi auditorium.

Ms. Shylaja said it was painful that Lini had lost her life to the infection even as the health sector continued to remain vigilant to the virus outbreak. Lini, who was very friendly with patients, did not spare a thought for her health while caring for the ill. Lini would be forever remembered and the government would take care of her family.

Safety to be ensured

The Minister said the government would ensure the safety of Health Department staff such as nurses, field workers, and cleaning staff. Training would be organised for them in this connection. They should also ensure their own safety.

Dr. Isaac said that in her last letter, Lini had foreseen what would happen. Malayali nurses could be found around the world owing to the excellent work they did. Lini was a model for Malayali nurses. He said he was glad that her family refused help from the UK saying the State government would take care of them. He also praised the Health Department’s efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

Mr. Ramakrishnan said Lini had displayed her dedication to her work.
