Transgender arts festival from today

For the first time in the country, a State-level festival to promote creative and artistic talents of transgender persons will be organised in the city.

Varnapakittu 2019 will get under way at Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Chala, on Friday.

Nearly 190 transgender contestants from across the State will compete in 20 events at the festival.

Minister for Social Justice K.K. Shylaja will formally inaugurate the two-day festival at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Ten transgender persons who have excelled in various fields will be honoured by the department on the occasion.

A proclamation rally will be taken out at 2 p.m.

The valedictory of the event at 5 p.m. on Saturday will see the Dhwayah Transgender Arts and Charitable Society stage a play Parayaan Maranna Kathakal . This will be followed by a dance performance by actor and dancer Lakshmi Gopalaswamy.
