Tirur municipality in Malappuram district has been declared totally digital literate.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced here on Wednesday that Tirur had become the first municipality in India to complete the e-governance digital literacy programme. As many as 13,000 families in 38 wards of the municipality were made digitally literate through a two-month campaign spearheaded by 1,200 National Service Scheme volunteers.
Mr. Chandy handed over the declaration to municipal chairperson K. Safiya. Urban Affairs Minister Manhalamkuzhy Ali and C. Mammootty, MLA, were present.
