Hundreds of little children were initiated into the world of letters at a massive Vidyarambham function held at Thunchanparamba in Tirur on Friday.
According to Thunchan Memorial Trust officials, as many as 3,832 children went through the Ezhuthiniruthu ceremony at Thunchanparamba, the home of Thunchath Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, the patriarch of the Malayalam language. Last year, 3,841 tiny tots were initiated into the world of letters.
Thunchanparamba witnessed a huge turnout of people as parents and other relatives accompanied each child to the ceremony. “Unlike the previous years, we had the most number of relatives accompanying children here at Thunchanparamba,” said poet Manambur Rajanbabu, one of the organisers.
“It’s a great celebration indeed,” said Mr. Rajanbabu. Jnanpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair led the function.
The writers who accompanied Mr. Nair in the function were Mr. Rajanbabu, P.K. Gopi, Alankode Leelakrishnan, K.P. Ramanunni, K.S. Venkitachalam, Kanesh Poonoor, Poonoor K. Karunakaran, Mundoor Sethumadhavan, K.X. Anto, Padmadas, G.K. Rammohan, Sreejit Perunthachan, Isaac Eapen, and Anand Kavalam.
Over 100 poets
Over 100 poets presented their poems at an exclusive Vidyarambham of poets. The poets symbolically dedicated their poems at the altar of Thunchath Ezhuthachan. Poet Leelakrishnan inaugurated the function.
