Utilities along Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road to be shifted in time-bound manner

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said that directions have been issued to relocate electric posts, lines, transformers, water supply pipes, and other public utilities in a time-bound manner to ensure unhindered progress of the development of the four-lane Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road.

The instructions were issued at a meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday in the presence of Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju to discuss the progress of the project.

Mr. Sivakumar said that water supply pipes of diameter 200 mm and 300 mm had already been laid on the left side of the stretch from Karamana to Pappanamcode. The Kerala Water Authority had been directed to take necessary steps to ensure that the 200-mm diameter pipes were laid on the right side of the road at the earliest. He had also requested the Minister for Water Resources to arrange for laying pipelines on either side of the road from Pappanamcode to Pravachambalam.

Most of the electric posts and lines that were present along the stretch from the Karamana bridge to the Pappanamcode junction had been relocated.

The transformer of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation depot and the one located near the Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering had to be shifted. In addition, the electric posts, lines and transformers that came between Thulavila and Pravachambalam remained to be relocated, the meeting noted.

Instructions had been given to ensure speedy repair of pipelines that suffered damage during construction works.

Mr. Sivakumar said close coordination between government departments and agencies was necessary for the time-bound execution of the project. The underpass constructed adjacent to Victory School near Pravachambalam would soon be opened to the public, he said.

The meeting decided to deploy 10 more home guards to streamline the flow of traffic along the route. Traffic signal boards would be established wherever necessary along the stretch where construction has been completed.
