Kerala staff stir on January 22

January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 10:42 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Action Council of State Employees and Teachers has called for a strike on January 22 in protest against the government’s laxity in accepting their charter of demands. Council general convener A. Sreekumar, in a letter to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday, demanded immediate implementation of the pay revision package of government employees and teachers and also disbursal of 20 per cent of the basic pay as interim relief with retrospective effect from July 1, 2014.

The council, in its charter of demands, said that the government should relinquish the decision to do away with 30,500 posts, restructure the student-teacher ratio, ensure job security of teachers, drop the participatory pension scheme, and include those who had joined service since April 1, 2013, also in the statutory pension scheme.
