‘Sri Lanka keen on tie-up up with Ashram’

May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Sri Lanka will like to work with the Santhigiri Ashram in areas such as agriculture, medicine manufacture, and social and cultural sectors, Sri Lankan Food Minister Gamini Jayavikrama Perreira has said.

He was inaugurating Sukrutham-2015, a meeting organised by the Santhigiri Ashram in connection with the Navaoli Jyothir Dinam ceremonies to mark the 16th death anniversary of its founder Karunakara Guru, here on Monday.

Mr. Perreira said there were a lot of social, cultural, and geographical similarities between Kerala and Sri Lanka, and there were areas where both could work together for development.

Mr. Perreira pointed out that the religious philosophies practised by the Santhigiri Ashram were very close to the ideals of Buddha.
