Minister lights Aksharadeepam at Asan Square

 Education Minister C. Ravindranath lighted Akshara Deepam to mark the Aksharasree literacy project of the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority and the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation at Asan Square in the city on Thursday.

Formal and informal education sectors should come together in an innovative manner for the State’s real development, Minister for Education C. Ravindranath has said.

He was speaking after lighting the Aksharadeepam as part of the Aksharasree literacy project at the Asan Square here on Thursday.

The project is being implemented by the city Corporation and the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority.

Aksharasree aims at identifying illiterates and providing them education, besides making opportunities for the further education of those who couldn’t pursue it. Mayor V.K. Prasanth presided. Corporation standing committee chairpersons and literacy mission Director P.S. Sreekala were present.

‘Aksharadeepam’ (lamps of literacy) would be lit in all wards at 6.30 p.m. on Friday.
