Social media offers tips to skip ban

: Soon after the news of the government’s ban on porn sites spread, ‘helpful’ tips on circumventing the ban were flying around in social media networks. Proxy sites topped the list of such tips. The proxy sites allow users to bypass the Internet Service Provider’s blocks.

The crackdown has not affected downloading using torrents, which provide access to millions of Gigabytes of pornographic materials. Then there is the much popular Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, which allows users to circumvent geo restrictions and censorship. Though sites like YouTube have long complied with ‘societal norms’ on adult content, several other sites still stream a profusion of such material.
