Smuggled kerosene seized

June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

A routine vehicle inspection by the Poovar police early on Wednesday resulted in the seizure of over 2,000 litres of smuggled white kerosene (non-PDS kerosene).

S. Abhilash Kumar, junior sub inspector, Poovar, said a mini tourist bus, which had managed to get past the Attuppuram check-post had sped off without stopping when a police party led by Mr. Kumar tried to stop it near the Poovar bridge during an inspection. The police gave chase and managed to intercept the vehicle around 3 a.m. near the Poovar junction. On examining the vehicle, they recovered 59 cans, of 35-litre capacity each, carrying 2,065 litres. The owner of the vehicle, which was taken into custody along with the driver, was being traced, he said.
