The government has initiated a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for acquiring 14.8 hectares of land sought by Railways for the doubling of the 7-km railway line from Thiruvanathapuram Central to Nemom and for the proposed coaching terminal at Nemom.
The Social Impact Assessment (SIA) unit of the of the Centre for Management Development (CMD), Thycaud, has been tasked by the Revenue Department to carry out the study.
A Social Impact Assessment Plan will also be prepared as mandated by Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The Principal Secretary, Revenue, has stated that the State is in receipt of the request from Railways for 14.80 hectares of land at Thycaud, Thirumala, Nemom, and Pallichal villages in Thiruvananthapuram district for the doubling of the track and the construction of the terminal. The government has given 13 weeks to the firm under CMD to complete the study.
The block-wise extent of land needed from the four villages along with the survey numbers has been included in the Schedule notified by the government in the gazette. Land to the extent of 1.57 hectares is needed from Thycaud village, 1.75 hectares from Thirumala village, 4.57 hectares from Nemom village, and 6.89 hectares from Pallichal village.
Already, Railways and the revenue administration have begun joint field inspection of the land to be acquired. Only after completing the field inspection and after getting the SIA report can the District Collector begin the land acquisition proceedings.
Railways began the preliminary work on the Phase I of the coaching terminal six months ago.
