SHRC helps four get due benefits

The intervention of the State Human Rights Commission has helped four persons receive the benefits due to them from the government, which were being withheld because of various administrative hurdles, an official release said here.

Lalithakumari, the widow of a dairy farmer and a BPL card holder, was allowed Rs. 10,560 by the government under the Ksheera Suraksha scheme following SHRC’s intervention. Though she had applied for the said benefit in April 2012, the Dairy Development department had not released the money saying that the number of applications for the said benefit had exceeded the limit.

Kunnathukaal native, K. Gopi, who sustained serious injuries after falling from a tree, had been denied the aid which was due to him from the Chief Minister’s relief fund after the Revenue department claimed that they had not received the District Collector’s report on the same. Following an order passed by the SHRC, the Revenue Secretary informed the Commission that the complainant had been allowed Rs. 1,20,000. The SHRC directed that the amount be given to the complainant within a week.

Pension denied

K. Indira of Pattoor’s complaint before SHRC was regarding the pension that was due to her from 2006. She had retired in 2006 as sweeper in the SC/ST Development Cooperative Federation. She was denied pension as the Federation had not remitted the amount on time to the Cooperative pension fund. Following SHRC’s directive, the Federation paid the appropriate amount into the pension fund so that the complainant may receive pension henceforth.

Mercy Verghese of Thiruvalla, who used to receive her Air Force family pension from Syndicate Bank in Thiruvalla, had approached SHRC as she stopped receiving the pension after she shifted residence to Thiruvananthapuram in July 2014. After SHRC intervened, the Defence Pension Disbursing Officer informed the Commission that the pension amount of Rs.1,04,069, due from 2014 August to February 2015, had been issued through Kowdiar SBT.
