SHRC for better road safety at Thampanoor

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the authorities to take steps to ensure adequate safety of pedestrians who crossed the busy roads at Thampanoor.

Commission chairman Antony Dominic has directed the executive director of the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation secretary to initiate steps in this regard and also submit an action-taken report within August 9.

The rights panel’s order was issued while considering a petition submitted by M. Jose Prakash who complained that commuters who arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station and Thampanoor central bus station were forced to wait for a long time to cross the busy road at the junction.

Dangerous

Besides, it has become perilous to cross the roads in the midst of vehicles that zipped by.

The State government should consider constructing either a foot over-bridge or a subway to ensure the safety of pedestrians in the Thampanoor area.

Any infrastructural development in the Thampanoor area should not be delayed at any cost, Mr. Jose Prakash said.
