Showers herald NE monsoon


Scattered showers heralded the arrival of the northeast monsoon over Kerala on Wednesday even as the India Meteorology Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in the State on October 30 and 31.

A bulletin issued by the IMD said the northeast monsoon rain had commenced over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Wednesday. The latest satellite imagery indicates that a depression has formed over the Arabian sea at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The depression which lay centred about 1,200 km southwest of Mumbai was expected to move north- northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression in the next 24 hours and subsequently into a cyclonic storm and move towards Yemen.
