Septage collection: trial run of e-booking today

The trial run of the city Corporation’s online booking facility for septage waste collection will begin on Thursday. The facility has been set up as per the local body’s new bylaw, which was formulated to prevent the dumping of septage waste by private septage collection vehicles in public places and waterbodies.

The Corporation has introduced a licence system for private vehicles as part of this. Till now, seven vehicles have registered with the local body.

The GPS-enabled vehicles licensed by the Corporation are painted in dark brown and will have ‘septage collection vehicle’ marked in white.

How it works

Public can log their requests for septage collection through the ‘Smart Trivandrum’ app, which can be downloaded from Google Playstore.

The user fee can be remitted online. The user need not pay those coming with the septage collection vehicle. The user will get an OTP as soon as the service is booked in the app. The driver of the licensed vehicle will get a trip pass at the same time.

The user has to pass the OTP to the driver of the collection vehicle, which the driver will key into his mobile app. The users can register their feedback too through the app.

When the vehicle reaches the waste treatment plant with the collected waste, information will reach the control room in the Corporation through RFID system. A call centre will function in the Corporation from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for this purpose. Call centre number – 9496434488.

User fee

The user fee for vehicles with tank capacity up to 5,000 litres is ₹3,000, while the fee for those between 5,001 to 7,500 litres is ₹4,000. The fee for vehicles above 7,500 litres capacity is ₹6,000.
