Plea to revive headload workers’ welfare board

Left Democratic Front convener Vaikom Viswan has demanded that the State government revive the functioning of the Headload Workers Welfare Board which has virtually become extinct. Inaugurating a Secretariat march organised by a joint action council of trade unions comprising the CITU, AITUC, UTUC, INTUC, and STU here on Tuesday, Mr. Viswan demanded that the government address the urgent demands of the unions, including a hike in the benefits due to them, than forcing them to go on an indefinite strike.

Headload workers took out a march from Asan Square to the Secretariat. Council State convener Kattakada Sasi, CITU Leader Jayan Babu, AITUC leaders Kuttiyanikadu Madhu and G.R. Anil, K. Jayakumar, UTUC, Cheruvakkal Padma Kumar, INTUC, and Mahin Abu Baker, STU, were among those who led the protest
