January 10, 2013 10:53 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:31 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Schemes to tackle drought will be implemented in the district at the earliest, Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar has said.

He was presiding over a review meeting on the issue in the city on Wednesday.

According to the Minister, funds for the scheme will be allotted from the Drought Relief Fund.

The District Collector had been entrusted with sanctioning funds for projects estimated at Rs.5 lakh or less.

For projects that required larger funds, the departments concerned should submit a detailed report to the Minister through the District Collector.

Steps would be taken to provide drinking water to the areas experiencing water scarcity, based on requirement from each panchayat.

Funds would be allotted to purchase rigs for the Groundwater Department.

Bunds would be built on rivers and streams by including them in employment guarantee schemes. Taluk-level meeting on drought relief schemes would be held on January 11.
