Students in government lower and upper primary schools coming under the Neyyattinkara municipal limits will get morning breakfast under a new project of the municipality.
The project is expected to benefit students from financially backward families and those reaching schools from tuitions without eating in the morning, municipal chairperson W.R. Heeba said.
Children up to Class 7 will receive breakfast under the project, for which ₹20 lakh has been set aside. This brings the cost to ₹12 a student.
As many as 1,282 students are being provided breakfast at present. Breakfast will be available on 130 working days in 11 schools.
Neyyattinkara Government Boys Higher Secondary School Principal, who is in-charge of the project, said it would help provide nutritious food to students.
Last year, breakfast was provided in 23 schools, included aided ones, for three months. Its success is what made the municipality to implement the project this year.
