Sarvodaya school to host ‘UN session’

Sarvodaya Central Vidyalaya (SCV), Nalanchira, is gearing up to organise a Model United Nations session, an academic simulation of various UN organisations and their functioning.

Cherian Panicker, Principal, SCV, said various committees, inclusive of teachers, students and experts, had joined hands to make the initiative a reality on November 23.

Twenty schools

Twenty schools would be participating in the event, which would be inaugurated by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis.

Each student would be assigned a particular agenda of a country, after which they are decipher solutions to the problems faced by that country, keeping in mind the country’s foreign policies and so on. The event, a concept encouraged by the UN, was to help create awareness on how the UN functions.

The two-day event would have students from various schools as ‘foreign delegates from 20 nations’ to discuss the dynamics of the contemporary world and other scenarios from the current political, social and economic situation, Dr. Panicker said.

The outstanding delegate and the best delegate would receive cash prizes of Rs.25,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively, which would be presented by IIST Director K.S. Dasgupta on November 24.
