Revival time for Attakulangara school

May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

: The Government Central High School, Attakulangara, which has been in the news following a move by the Trivandrum Development Authority (TRIDA) to take over a part of it to build the East Fort city bus terminal and a shopping complex, is all set to reopen after the summer vacation with 100 new admissions for 2015-16.

The school is currently functioning on the strength of a court stay on implementation of the TRIDA plans, thanks mainly to the efforts of the Attakulangara School Samrakshana Samithi and Tree Walk, a city-based environment group.

100% pass

It had achieved 100 per cent pass in the last two SSLC examinations, mainly because of the special efforts put in by the Samithi, Tree Walk and, most importantly, the teachers and staff.

The same time last year, when the possibility of the school losing a large part of its campus loomed large, the school had just three fresh admissions.

The school is the main institution of education for children who hail from economically backward families in the locality.

Sponsorship

In its efforts to keep the school going and attract fresh students, the Samrakshana Samithi has also initiated the sponsorship of every student in the school.

“We will try our best to restore its old glory to Attakulangara school,” said Gomathi, an active member of the Samithi.
