Wears a settu-mundu to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple

World badminton champion P.V. Sindhu on Wednesday made a style statement wearing Kerala handlooms as she appeared in public at various functions in Thiruvananthapuram

She wore a traditional settu-mundu to Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and then a Chendamangalam sari specially handwoven by artisan P.C. Mohanan Master at the Paravur Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society in Chendamangalam.

It was conceptualised by entrepreneur Sobha Vishwanath of Weavers Village under the Save The Loom project to showcase the resilient comeback of the weavers after last year’s flood. She also wore a designer wear for an official function.

“We have been constantly looking at avenues to highlight the work of Kerala artisans and weavers and for this special occasion, we engaged the master weaver to create a unique jacquard design on Kerala kasavu sari,” said Ramesh Menon of Save The Loom. Ms.Vishwanth, who designed the sari, said the work was done after consultations to bring out the best of the champion’s personality and the weaver’s artistic oeuvre.
