It is the necessity of the times that all women become a part of the human wall of women, to protect the values of the 19th century enlightenment movement that transformed Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
Focal theme
He was inaugurating a women empowerment programme, ‘Sadhairyam Munnottu’, organised by the Women and Child Development Department here on Monday. The focal theme of the programme is women, menstruation and human rights. Women, by participating in the human wall, will become the soldiers of those very values that transformed Kerala. It would be something that Kerala can always be proud of, Mr. Vijayan, said. He said vested interests were trying to bring back degenerative values of society in the name of rites and rituals.
When one looks at history, social reformation movements, even the one against the practice of Sati, have always faced great challenges, Mr. Vijayan reminded.
Health and Social Justice Minister K.K. Shylaja presided.
Campaign ahead
‘Sadhairyam Munnottu’ will be a campaign taken through all colleges till March 8, the International Women’s Day.
