Project to check violence against children soon

The Women and Child Development Department will soon formulate a new project - “A touch of care - lets us join hands with children” - to check the increasing incidence of violence against children, Health and Social Justice Minister K.K. Shylaja has said.

A mega campaign will be launched by the WCD Department in this connection on June 1, Global Parenting Day, which will last till November 14, Children’s Day, she added, while inaugurating a workshop on child protection here on Tuesday.

The mega campaign will be organised with the cooperation of district legal service authority, Kudumbashree, and various other stakeholders.

A separate campaign will be held in schools for parents on good parenting. The WCD Department, along with the Education Department, has also proposed child rights clubs in schools to create more awareness on child rights and ensure that these are not violated.

The government has already set up district juvenile justice committees in all districts, under the chairmanship of the district judge, to monitor and check violence against children.

The WCD Department has also decided to conduct a vulnerability survey in June-July at the anganwadi-level.

Final shape

The workshop also gave a final shape to the framework of the proposed good parenting clinics being set up in the districts under child protection committees.

Special Secretary (Social Justice) Biju Prabhakar, WCD Department Director Sheeba George, Planning Board member Mridul Eapen, Gender Advisor to government T. K. Anandi, among others, participated in the workshop.
