The Kerala Film Producers’ Association has decided to clamp an unofficial ban on filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews after a gang led by him allegedly attacked producer Allwyn Antony at his home in Panampilly Nagar around midnight on Saturday.
The Kerala Film Chamber has also come out with a statement strongly condemning the director for the “heinous attack”. Office-bearers of the producers’ association, along with Allwyn, met State Police Chief (SPC) Loknath Behera on Monday morning to demand stringent action against the director.
“The entire film community is agitated over the attack. The whole thing was around an issue that could have been talked and settled. But, this attack is unacceptable.
The family has got the video evidence of what transpired that night. It has been handed over to the police. We felt that the case that was filed against him was weak, compared to what actually happened. The SPC has promised us prompt action,” said G. Suresh Kumar, president of the association.
The association has asked anyone who is currently involved with Mr. Rosshan to contact the organisation. The attack was allegedly over a dispute between Andrrews and Allwyn’s son, who was working as his assistant. According to the family’s version, Mr. Rosshan and a gang of around 15 people arrived at their house at midnight and demanded to meet the son. Since he was not there, the gang allegedly proceeded to threaten the family and assault one of his friends.
Counter-complaint
The Ernakulam Town South police have registered a case against the filmmaker and his friend Navas over the incident. He has also filed a counter-complaint alleging that he was the one who was attacked, and also denied any attack from his side. The filmmaker was not reachable for comment.
The Kerala Film Chamber said strong action would be taken against the filmmaker.
