Polling in Aruvikkara today

June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:00 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The 1.84 lakh electorate in the Aruvikkara Assembly constituency will go to the polling booth on Saturday to elect a representative to the 13th Kerala Legislature for the remaining eight months of its term.

All preparations have been completed for holding the by-election in 154 polling booths spread over eight panchayats of Aruvikkara, Aryanad, Tholidcode, Vithura, Kuttichal, Poovachal, Vellanad, and Uzhamalackal.

The names of 16 candidates will figure in the electronic voting machine, but the contest is basically triangular, between K.S. Sabarinadhan of the Indian National Congress, M. Vijayakumar of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and O. Rajagopal of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

An interesting feature this time is that the photographs of all candidates will be displayed alongside their names and party symbols in the electronic voting machines.
