Police to step up security incapital for Attukal Pongala

Limit set on use of loudspeakers and structures in festival zone

The City police will intensity security measures for Attukal Pongala deploying more patrol teams that usual.

This will include 10 bike patrols that will cover various parts of the city, especially areas close to Attukal, round-the-clock during the course of the festival.

Strict checking

According to District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) S. Surendran, police presence will be intensified on all roads.

Personnel in plain-clothes will be deployed for the security of women and children and additional presence of women police officers and women battalion personnel will also be ensured.

On alert

The city shadow police will also be on alert.

The police have prohibited makeshift stages and arches on roadsides in the festival zone.

Besides, cases will be registered against those who use loudspeakers beyond the permissible sound limit.

The sound systems will also be confiscated in such cases.

Forcible collection of donations by voluntary organisations and clubs will not be permitted under any circumstances.

Legal action

Legal action will be initiated against those indulging in such activities, the officer said.

The City police will open a control room on the Attukal temple premises on February 12, when the Pongala festival gets under way.

Additional Director General of Police Manoj Abraham will formally launch the bike patrol that will be in foece during the festival days.
