The police will raid college hostels on getting information about drug abuse, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.
Replying to a submission by V.P. Sajeendran on the increasing use and sale of drugs in the State on Monday, Mr. Chennithala said the government had taken various steps, including the Clean Campus, Safe Campus drive, to contain the drug menace, but on getting complaints about drug abuse, the police would raid college hostels.
Ganja smuggling
Ganja was being smuggled into the State from the northeastern States and Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh through Idukki. Raids and inspections had been intensified to prevent such attempts through railway and bus stations.
The second phase of the Clean Campus drive would be launched in Kozhikode at the end of July, Mr. Chennithala said.
New labs
Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar, in reply to a submission by Thomas Unniyadan on the exploitation of private hospitals and laboratories, said the government would try to pilot the Kerala Clinical Establishments Bill in the current session to contain unethical practices in private hospitals and laboratories.
Steps had been taken to open laboratories in 250 public health centres.
Steps against kala-azar
In reply to another submission of K. Radhakrishnan on the spread of kala-azar in parts of Chelakkara, Mr. Sivakumar said deputy district medical officers had been directed to take steps to prevent the spread of the fever in the State.
Migrant workers
Screening of migrant labourers too would be intensified, he said.
