Exhilaration turned into tragedy for the family of a police officer, who was electrocuted on Saturday, a day after he was felicitated by the Chief Minister for meritorious service.

Harshkumar S., 44, an Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to the Police Training College, was electrocuted outside his house in Mundakkalvaram, near Venjaramoodu. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. when the officer attempted to rescue his wife, Swapna, who got an electric shock when she came into contact with a live wire in their cow-shed.

Harshkumar was confirmed dead at the Government Medical College Hospital here. The funeral rites were held on the house compound in the evening.
