Police list sensitive polling booths at Aruvikkara

June 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The police have identified 25 polling booths in Aruvikkara as ‘sensitive.’

Senior police officers said the list had been prepared after analysing past records and ground reports. The list was submitted to the Election Commission four days ago for its consideration. Steps would be taken to ensure smooth polling, they said.

The police had recommended the deployment of five more policemen under the supervision of a sub-inspector in additional to the routine arrangements at these booths. If required, the services of Central forces could be used on polling day, sources said. The commission would carry out the scrutiny of expenditure of all candidates in fray for the by-poll. The scrutiny would be conducted on Tuesday under the direct supervision of the Expenditure Observer, an official release issued here said.

The release said the commission had taken stock of the electronic voting machines meant to be used. Arrangements were in place for Central government employees to cast their votes in the postal ballot mode, the release said.

A helpline number (18004250054) is in place at the collectorate to receive complaints regarding the violation of the model code, it said.
