POBEDA ends with WWII memories

A three-month-long festival titled POBEDA, organised by the Russian Cultural Centre here, concluded on Monday with a colourful meeting.

The function comprised the official closing ceremony, a seminar, a music programme, and a big screen projection of the recorded version of the Victory Day Parade on Red Square.

In his inaugural address, Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly N. Sakthan said the Soviet victory over fascism had changed the geo-political situation.

“Even though the Allies won the World War, one can easily admit that Soviet Union was the captain of the winning team. More than 28 million Soviet citizens sacrificed their lives for the peace of the world and for the present generation. ,” he said.

The presence of the President Pranab Mukherjee and participation of the Indian Army in the Victory Parade show the importance given by India to the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Great Victory over fascism, he said.
