Poaching: 32 arrested

The government has sought the help of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau to unearth evidence about the international links of the poachers and ivory traders involved in a series of elephant poaching incidents in the Edamalayar forests, Forest Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said.

The Minister said 32 persons, including six poachers, seven ivory traders, eight ivory craftsmen, two persons who manufactured the weapons used by the poachers, and nine helpers, had been arrested in connection with the case.Investigators recovered 33.5 kg of ivory and 17.5 kg of handcrafted ivory products, along with three vehicles used by the poachers.
