Award for scholar

N. Ajith Kumar, who conducted extensive studies in folklore and folk arts, has been selected for the P.K. Kalan Puraskaram for 2015, Minister for Cultural Affairs K.C. Joseph has said.

The Minister said in a release here on Tuesday that the honour was being given in view of his contributions to language, literature, folk arts, cinema and other art forms. The award has been instituted by the government in the name of former Kerala Folklore Academy chairman and Tribal Gaddika artiste of Wayanad P.K. Kalan and is being given to those who make significant contributions to folk arts.

The award comprises Rs.1 lakh in cash, a citation and a memento. Mr. Ajith Kumar had won doctorate in folklore and did post-doctoral studies under UGC in Kali worship. He was selected by a jury headed by Folklore Academy chairman B. Mohammed Ahammed. — Special Correspondent
