The Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd (KRTL) has approached the District Administration to initiate steps to carry out the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) study for the proposed 570-metre flyover in the busy Pattom junction.
The KRTL’s formal request in this regard has been submitted and it is for the District Collector, Thiruvananthapuram to appoint the agency from the empanelled list to carry out the SIA study, official sources told The Hindu .
The study is mandated by the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act. The Revenue Department officials and the KRTL authorities had carried out the first joint inspection of the land to be acquired for the proposed flyover.
While carrying the MRTS, the flyover, along the National Highway 66, that will commence from near the headquarters of the Kerala Public Service Commission and end near Plamoodu junction, will carry the vehicular traffic also reducing the traffic congestion in the two junctions.
Light metro corridor
The flyovers at Sreekaryam, Uloor and Pattom was recommended by the DMRC along the 21.82-km Technocity-Karamana elevated light metro corridor to solve the traffic problems. In all 2.11 hectares has to be acquired for flyovers.
Sreekaryam flyover
Based on the report of the seven-member expert committee that evaluated the SIA study by the Centre for Advanced Research in Health and Human Behaviour (CARB), the district administration is preparing for acquiring 1.34 hectares of land needed for the 630-m flyover at Sreekaryam.
The 11(1) notification under the Land Acquistion Act is to be issued soon by the government intimating the land owners at Sreekaryam of the acquisition, sources in the KRTL said. The SIA study for the 443-metre flyover at Ulloor entrusted to the Institution for Rural Development (IRD) is nearing completion and soon the public hearing will be conducted.
Land to the extend of 0.6 hectares is to be acquired for the two-lane Ulloor flyover that will begin from near the petrol pump after Kochulloor on NH 66.
Nod for purchase
Already, the government has given nod for negotiated purchase of the land.
The KIIFB has given nod for the flyover at Sreekaryam that will cost ₹135.37 crore, Ulloor ₹79.25 crore and ₹140 crore for Pattom flyover, sources said.
